Sun Microsystems was a computer company based in Santa Clara, California that was traditionally known for its Unix workstations and servers. It can be argued that the Sun Microsystems in the late 2000s was nothing like the Sun Microsystems of the mid-1990s, due to its shift in paradigm from UltraSPARC-based systems running the Solaris operating system to x86-based systems running Ubuntu GNU/Linux. Just like SGI, they got bought. Oracle bought them.
